This bacon recipe gets me there. It’s so handy to have this waiting in your fridge to make salads into a full meal, or top avocado toast, spice up several pasta dishes, etc etc. I’ve tried many bacon recipes, this one hits all the right flavors and measurements and is so convincing of the real thing.
What you need:
2 packages of firm/x-firm tofu
3/4 C soy sauce, liquid amigos or tamari
2/3 C water
5 Tbl Liquid smoke (found here on Amazon)
1 Tbl Garlic Powder
2 Tbl Smoked Paprika
4 Tbl Maple Syrup (maple preferred, could use Agave)
What you do:
preheat oven to 425. Drain tofu - press on it with a clean towel to remove excess water. On a parchment lined, or lightly greased baking sheet - crumble all of the tofu (exercise those fingers! surprisingly fun to crumble tofu for kids of all ages).
Mix all remaining ingredients in a bowl, evenly pour the mixture everywhere atop the tofu. Bake in the oven for 50-60 minutes - breaking it up with a spatula halfway through baking. set a reminder! let it cool as it continues to harden 10-20 minutes. Get your bacon on!!
